Christie welcomes Shore-goers back to Belmar on brand new boardwalk

Belmar - It’s not life at the Jersey Shore for Mary Hanley if she can’t take her usual strolls on the boardwalk from Spring Lake to Belmar.

So when the Belmar boardwalk, destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, officially opened Wednesday to great fanfare, Hanley said she had to be there.

"I’m a walker," said Hanley, who lives in the Greenbriar I adult community in Brick. "When I couldn’t walk on the boardwalk, it was horrible. I felt like a caged animal."

Sandy-struck museums aim to reopen in Point Pleasant after devastating losses

POINT PLEASANT — They are sister museums in spirit and space.

The New Jersey Museum of Boating and the Vintage Automobile Museum of New Jersey, shared members, a building and a mission to honor the memory and craftsmanship like wooden hulls and spoke wheels.

"It was a tremendous marriage between the two," said Steve Zboyan, curator and treasure of the car side.

The wedding, so to speak, became official last Sept. 15, the day of the car museum’s grand opening.

The 2.2-mile borough has been working with oceanfront homeowners to get easements allowing the Army Corp of Engineers to build an engineered dune system along the coastline.
Nebel said that the borough has 128 oceanfront properties and so far has 115 easements .

He said he expected the other 13 easements to come in soon.

HIGHLANDS — Marking six months since Hurricane Sandy’s landfall on the Jersey Shore, officials announced today that the federal government has signed off on more than $1.8 billion in aid to help residents recover from the Oct. 29 storm.
